Carl grew up on a sheep farm in southwestern Ontario. After high school, he attended Briercrest Bible College in Saskatchewan. He planned to use his three-year Christian Education Diploma and Evangelical Teacher Training Diploma to serve as a layperson within his local church as he planned to become a farmer.
After receiving a call to ministry a few years later, he returned to Briercrest and earned a Bachelor of Religious Education degree (Pastoral major). He then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo and a Master of Divinity degree from Emmanuel College in Victoria University (University of Toronto).
His ministry style is traditional. He loves preaching the Word of God, and enjoys friendship evangelism.
